Tanzania works year-round. Each season has its own strengths — match your priority to the month, not the other way around.
Classic safari conditions — easy wildlife viewing, river crossings in northern Serengeti (Jul-Oct), peak demand.
Short afternoon rains for 2-3 weeks. Otherwise excellent — clear mornings, lower rates, fewer vehicles.
Wildebeest calving in the southern Serengeti (Jan-Feb) draws massive predator action. Hot, dry, photogenic.
Tanzania's main rains — green landscapes, dramatic skies, the lowest rates of the year. Some camps close.
The questions our planners are asked most often before booking.
Most travellers settle on 7–10 days for Tanzania. Seven days is the sweet spot for Serengeti and Ngorongoro done properly — three Serengeti nights, a proper crater day, and a soft landing in Arusha. Ten days adds fly-in legs, longer Serengeti stays, or a Zanzibar finish. Eleven-plus days suits the Great Migration or full Kenya–Tanzania routings. Shorter than five days, you'll spend too much time on transfers relative to game drives.
June to October is the classic dry season — easier wildlife viewing, clear skies, and the migration in the Northern Serengeti for river crossings. December to February is warm, dry, and excellent for the southern Serengeti calving season. April to May is the long-rains green season — dramatic skies, fewer crowds, and the lowest rates of the year, though some bush camps close.
Mid-range private safaris run USD 550 per person per day. Mid-luxury safaris run USD 650–850 per day. Luxury and High-End safaris range from USD 950 to 1,750+ per day. The biggest cost driver is camp choice and Serengeti positioning — the rooms, location, and exclusivity of where you stay. Internal flights, peak-season dates, and private concessions push toward the upper end.
Group joining is excellent value for solo travellers or couples on a tighter budget. However, private safaris give you full control — your own guide, vehicle, and pace. For couples and families, our private mid-range routes offer the perfect sweet spot of value, exclusivity, and comfort.
Northern Circuit (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Manyara) is the classic and the right choice for first-time safari-goers — iconic, dense wildlife, the migration. Southern Tanzania (Nyerere, Ruaha) is quieter, more remote, and exclusive — fewer vehicles, walking safaris, boat safaris on the Rufiji River. Repeat travellers and photographers often prefer the south.
Yes — bush-to-beach is one of our most-booked formats. After your safari, fly directly from the Serengeti or Arusha to Zanzibar for 3–6 beach nights. The transition is seamless. Alternatively, if you're already on Zanzibar, our fly-in safaris (3 days) take you to Nyerere or Serengeti and back without losing your beach base.
For peak season (July–October) in the northern Serengeti, we recommend 9–12 months ahead. For luxury ultra-remote camps (Singita, premium northern Serengeti), 12–18 months is safer. Shoulder and green-season journeys can often be arranged inside 3–4 months with full choice. December–February festive dates also fill quickly — book 6+ months ahead.
Most international travellers need the Tanzania e-Visa (USD 50), applied for online before travel. Yellow-fever certification is required only if arriving from an endemic country. Tanzania is a malaria zone — consult your doctor about prophylaxis 4–6 weeks before travel. Our team provides full pre-travel advisory support on visas, health, and onward connections.
