Arusha National Park is a multi-faceted jewel, often overlooked by safari-goers despite offering the opportunity to explore a beguiling diversity of habitats within a few hours. Nestled on the slopes of Mount Meru, the park is famous for its lush montane forest, the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater, and the flamingo-filled Momella Lakes.
Unlike most parks on the Northern Circuit, Arusha National Park allows you to step out of the vehicle. This day trip features a thrilling guided walking safari accompanied by an armed park ranger. Walking through the bush gives you an entirely different perspective—allowing you to learn about animal tracks, micro-ecosystems, and safely approach grazing giraffes and buffaloes on foot.
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha. The park is only a short 45-minute drive away, making this the perfect, stress-free day trip without long transit times.
After registering at the gate, we meet our armed park ranger. We set off on a 2-hour walking safari across the open savanna and into the montane forest. This is a rare chance to walk safely in the proximity of wild giraffes, warthogs, and buffaloes.
Returning to the 4x4, we drive toward the Momella Lakes. These alkaline lakes frequently host flocks of pink flamingos and offer stunning, clear-day views of both Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance.
We will stop at a designated picnic site to enjoy lunch, surrounded by nature and often visited by curious blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys (keep an eye on your food!).
We explore the rim of the Ngurdoto Crater—often called "Little Ngorongoro"—before slowly making our way out of the park. You will be dropped off at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) for an evening flight, or back at your hotel in Arusha.
Prices are per person and scale down based on the number of people sharing the private 4x4 safari vehicle. All park entry fees and the armed ranger fee for the walking safari are included.
